It’s OK to Say “No”
Everyone has the right to decide their own boundaries. A “no” must always be respected—without discussion, pressure, or the need for an explanation.
Our Guidelines
- Respect other people’s personal space and boundaries.
- A “no” never requires an explanation.
- Agreeing to dance only means agreeing to that dance. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
- Any behaviour that continues after someone has said “no” will not be tolerated by our association.
Examples
- Ask first.
Before inviting someone to dance, ask first. A “no” doesn’t need an explanation—simply thank them and invite someone else.
- Wait for a “yes”.
Don’t assume someone wants to dance with you. Wait for a clear “yes” before starting the dance.
- Ask about the dance role.
Even if you’ve danced together before—for example in class—that doesn’t mean the person wants to dance the same role again. Ask not only if they’d like to dance, but also which role they’d like to dance/ clarify which role do you dance.
